Fat men as art models (NSFW)

I've never taken a life-drawing class, but it would be pure pleasure to walk into the studio and see any one of these men below the cut as models. With a fat man as model, the artists have to take into account the three-dimensional weight and mass of his body. Also, since it's so unusual to see fat men unclothed (as in media, outside of slapstick comedy like the Jackass movies, for instance), the artists are compelled to draw what they see, not some idealized male form.

Unknown model drawn by Rennie Behrend, a St. Louis art professor:

Model Michael Schmidt (whom I wrote about earlier), painted by Katherine Sly:

The four below were taken by Michelle Raspanti, of male model Artclasmodl. (The link is only viewable by flickr members, sorry.)

hi - I'm just going to leave this here. Playing in my city, and perhaps in yours?

Unfortunately not in my city. We don't get as many of the indie/foreign films as I'd like, so I guess I'll have to wait for the DVD. thornyc had some comments about it here, if you haven't seen them.

Go for it! You might find a local photographer; someone you feel comfortable with.

College art classes or if you live in a region with art co-ops are often looking for folks you can usually find requests on craigslist sketchy though it may sound. Or call a university art dept.

i'd love to model. i'd probably be better as a photographic model since i've practiced on myself enough. i don't know if i could sit still long enough for drawing.

You would make a good photographic model, I think. It's a matter of finding someone willing to take the shots (and being in the same place at the same time.)

I'm not sure a class has to be explicitly "pro-size;" just open to models of different body types. It might not hurt to ask; you could be pleasantly surprised.

fat male figure model
Love the pics. I am a "full figured, Rubenesque" model in Chicago myself. I get great feedback from the artists and classes I have worked with. They enjoy the break from drawoing 20 year old dancers. My pics
