Joyous Fur Shark! The Punkzilla always makes me happy. She's so righteous. She let me take one photo before attacking my phone.

Notes:2-4. Note the plural forms. 7. Unattested. 10. Actually a different subspecies, but near enough that rapini is sold under this name in Chinese markets.

I've had a bit of a bad conscience about the rapini I sowed in my neighbour's plot back when I thought it would soon be mine, but that was put to rest with this e-mail:
you can keep the rapini in my plot as long as i get to harvest from it. i just realized that it's either the same or really similar to broccoli rabé and i really like broccoli rabé.
It is flourishing quite nicely; yesterday we got our first blooms. Normally with greens, that's the point at which I would sigh and rip it all up for the compost, but it seems rapini doesn't go all bitter when it flowers. At least I guess we'll all find out.

So, I'm volunteering at WisCon this year to do something that can hardly even be called "volunteering" for me -- I'm teaching / playing board games! This is a new thing at WisCon, so I really, really hope it goes well.

My slots and games are tentatively (provided they don't need to shuffle them around to accommodate last-minute changes) to be:

Saturday, 8:15pm: Cleopatra and the Society of the Architects

Sunday, 8:00pm: The New Science

Sunday, 10:00pm: Mansions of Madness

I'll probably bring some smaller things on the side in case we finish games and people want something light thereafter.

If you're of a mind to, I'd love it if you came out to my games! (Or any of the others -- there's also a Friday evening slot from 8:30pm onward, and the games other than mine that are going to be up are Cranium Caddoo, Game of Thrones, FanFic The Game, Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game, Zombicide, and Zombie Munchkin. There'll be a poster printed up with the games and times and so on.)

Souciant ran Souciant ran a feature on my Dirt Yards at Night photos today. The photos will be included in the DIRT Yuta Suelo Udongo Tè exhibit in Miami, Florida from June 1-28 a feature on my Dirt Yards at Night photos today. The photos will be included in the DIRT Yuta Suelo Udongo Tè exhibit in Miami, Florida from June 1-28.

I narrowed my selection of photos to the top one plus five below the cut. Unfortunately, I couldn't use the "work truck" photo because it was impossible to get a good print of it. Printing these photos was a real bear! Whatever photos don't sell at the exhibit I will be selling framed and ready to go when they are returned to me. They look GREAT framed. Photo later. I'm buried at day job and today is my dad's birthday. He's being moved to a nursing home today. I need to visit him and bring him a balloon and a photo of Bean.

BTW -- the poll really helped me make my final selection. I never would have selected the trailer shot, but that one ended up printing beautifully. Much of my final selection also had to be determined by how well the photos print. They are VERY DIFFICULT.

Also, I'll be putting together a Dirt Yards book this weekend. The book will include about 30 color plates. I'll post details when it's completed. It will be signed and limited, probably to 50 copies. Also, the prints look much better than these images as do the images in the Souciant article. The images in the book will be much more refined.

XO

EDIT: Realized my link to the article was dead. It's live now!

Aaaah, vacation. I still got up at 6am because I want to be really tired tonight so I can sleep in the car. But I managed to get everything I needed to get done for work yesterday, even if I did have to work a little late and a tiny bit from home last night. Still, all done. And I don't have to THINK about work until next week. That feels so good.

As for today, I shall be packing, going through the last of my closet for unwanted clothing, and running a few errands, such as getting out US cash and such. I will likely also do a bit of tidying, because I hate leaving for a vacation when my space is messy. I learned the hard way that coming home to a messy space from a nice vacation sucks, so now I'm a bit of a neat-freak when I'm about to go away.

I have a whole bunch of cool things to bring down with me -- notes to refer to during my panel, some nifty Kobo swag to give away, my business cards, etc. I am so looking forward to this whole thing, I can't even. I love WisCon, I love Kobo, and being able to bring them both together like this is just too awesome for words.

Today's agenda includes stops at the bank, Shopper's Drug Mart, and possibly somewhere tasty for lunch. I also need to decide what I'm going to wear, pack my suitcase, and go through the rest of my closet. I also would like to tidy my bedroom and den.

And watch the episode of Grimm I have on the PVR.

Then, tonight around 8pm or so, we leave for WisCon! WHEE!!
